4D Ultrasound Scans

Becoming pregnant for the first time can suddenly throw the expectant parents into a whole new world of pregnancy related concerns, and a bewildering range of tests and checks which are routinely given throughout the pregnancy.

Of these, ultrasound scans have become one the most common and frequently performed examinations at various stages of the pregnancy, and it may seem like an unnecessary and time consuming procedure for what is suppose to be the most natural function of the female body.

Ultrasounds, carried out on pregnant mothers, are helpful in identifying any potential health issues with the unborn foetus. They can also bring to light defects in the mother’s uterus that may have a negative effect on the birth process. In addition, ultrasound tests are used to determine how far along a mother is in the gestational period, enabling the doctor to give a fairly accurate date for the mother as to when to expect delivery.

The ultrasound can also be used to determine the gender of the unborn child. Whilst many expectant mothers opt to know this information, it is something that you will have to ask your ultrasonographer to reveal, as many parents prefer not to know.

While early detection of potential health problems for mother and child are important, some parents have real concerns about the safety of the procedure for mother and unborn baby alike, as well as fears about why it is being recommended by their caregiver.

In fact, ultrasounds can be one of the most exciting times during a pregnancy and there is very little reason for concern about their use.
